May News from Grade 1
As we move into our final units in our different subject areas, we're amazed at how the year has gone by! We started our last reading book of first grade. This month we'll be working on the four types of sentences (statements, questions, exclamations, commands), pronouns, and a review of many phonics and grammar skills. The first graders have been having a lot of read-aloud opportunities, both in our own classroom and to our friends in Pre-K once a week.
In Math we'll be learning about fractions, money and time. In Science we'll finish up our unit on insects and begin a fun section on sound. In Social Studies we will continue our Map Skills program.
May is a beautiful month spiritually. We begin the month with our Church's celebration of the Ascension, which is the start of the novena to the Holy Spirit, whose coming we celebrate on Pentecost. May is also the month dedicated to Our Lady, and there are some important feasts of Mary to learn about.
